Summer Reading Challenge

Research indicates students who do not read over the summer may experience the “summer slide” or a decline in reading achievement.  MAP scores and Oral Reading Fluency may drop when students do not read over the summer.  Students are encouraged to continue developing their independent reading skills by participating in our Summer Reading program. 

Rising 1st and 2nd Graders:

  • Read 20 books and record them on the attached reading log.
  • Complete at least 2 activities from the back of this letter and turn the completed projects in to Ms. Brown.

OR

  • Complete the Summer Reading Program at the Green Sea Public Library and bring your certificate of completion to Ms. Brown.
  • Complete at least 2 activities from the back of this letter and turn the completed projects in to Ms. Brown.

 

Rising 3rd - 5th Graders:

  • Read 2 chapter books and record them on the attached reading log.
  • Complete 2 activities per book (4 total) from the back of this letter and turn the completed projects in to Ms. Brown.

OR

  • Complete the Summer Reading Program at the Green Sea Public Library and bring your certificate of completion to Ms. Brown.
  • Complete 4 activities from the back of this letter and turn the completed projects in to Ms. Brown.

OR

  • Complete 20 Achieve 3000 articles and log them on the attached log.

 

Students who complete the Summer Reading Challenge will be invited to a Kona Ice Party! All reading logs must be turned in by Friday, August 20, 2021.
