Summer Reading 2019
Reading practice creates not only stronger readers, but lifelong readers. Research indicates students who do not read over the course of the summer run the risk of losing ground in reading achievement. Students are encouraged to enjoy quality literature and to continue developing their independent reading skills at home and outside of school. This is why we are challenging every student to spend time reading during summer vacation!
In order to participate in the 2019 Loris Elementary summer reading program, students should use the attached Read-O board and reading log to record both the materials and the number of minutes read each day. Primary-level readers (K-2) can record books that are read with an adult. Elementary-level readers (3-5) may also record articles read on Achieve3000. All students must complete at least three (3) rows on the Read-O board—and log each of the books and/or articles that are read on the attached reading log—in order to participate in this year’s summer reading reward. (Parents/guardians must date and initial each completed space on the board as well as each row on the log.) This year’s summer reading reward will be an ice cream party hosted by the Library Media Specialist. In order to encourage students to read as much as possible this summer, those who complete the entire Read-O card will be entered into a drawing for an additional prize to be announced.
All Read-O boards must be returned to the media center by Friday, August 31st.
