School Telehealth Information
Horry County Schools and Little River Medical Center are working together to provide your student with access to healthcare when it has been determined that your child is in need of care during school hours. Little River Medical Center has incorporated a school-based telehealth program that connects students directly to health care professionals of Little River Medical Center to provide more timely access to healthcare for your student who may otherwise have to wait until they are able to be seen in a traditional healthcare setting. Below are frequently asked questions, FAQ’s, to help explain the mission of our program.
What is tele-health?
Telehealth, also referred to as telemedicine, is the use of secured medical information about a patient that is exchanged from one site to another via electronic communications. Electronic uses audio and video equipment that permits two-way, real-time interactive communication between the patient and the medical provider at Little River Medical Center.

How does the medical provider interact with my child?
A medical provider from Little River Medical Center examines your child with the assistance of the school nurse and/or LRMC’s telehealth nurse. An onsite licensed nurse participates in the visit to collect information about the reason for the visit and to operate equipment that aids in the medical provider to hear, talk, observe, listen, and treat your child's symptoms.
Who will be participating in the telehealth visit?
LRMC’s nurse will be present with your child during the entire visit to assist the physician with collection of information and operation of the equipment.
How will information collected from the telehealth visit be used?
Medical information collected during the visit is treated just the same as if you were in the office. The session is never recorded and your child’s information will be treated with strict confidentiality as detailed in the signed consent forms.
Does my insurance cover the cost?
We do not want your child’s healthcare coverage to be a reason to delay treatment. However, coverage for telehealth visits vary. Please contact your plan to verify coverage. If you are unsure of your insurance coverage please continue to complete the registration and insurance information and one of our team members will reach out to assist you.
South Carolina Medicaid covers telehealth visits 100%.

Getting started only takes about 15-20 minutes of your time to complete the enrollment process. There is a link below to complete the registration process by using a smartphone, tablet, or computer. Our forms are secured and HIPAA compliant. Paper Registration Forms are available with your school nurse.
First, take a picture of your child’s insurance cards FRONT & BACK. During your online registration you will be prompted to upload these photos within the insurance section of the On-Line Registration form.
Once you submit the registration you will receive a confirmation informing you that we have received the Registration and Consent Forms.
