Safety and Security

We would like to let all parents and guardians know that we have comprehensive safety plans in place and conduct frequent safety drills for a variety of situations to keep our students safe.  The safety of students and staff is our number one priority. We would also like to remind students and parents that we encourage open lines of communication for reporting concerns to school staff members or administration when you feel that specific situations need to be addressed. There are a variety of ways that parents and students can report issues - both in person (any staff member) and via technology. The district’s School Crime Tip Line is 843-915-7767.  Information regarding the School Crime Tip Line can be accessed at

District-required safety precautions/protocols are in place:

  • Use of school buzz-in system
  • Driver’s license checks
  • Issuance of visitor badges
  • Locked AND secure exterior doors
  • Locked classroom doors
  • Student supervision in all areas

Also, the HCS School Board's recent decision to place security officers at all elementary schools for the 2018-19 school year provides further evidence of the commitment to keep our students safe.  Phase I of this implementation places security officers at elementary schools on a rotating basis until the end of this school year.  A security officer will be placed at every school by the start of school next August.  Please join our school staff in welcoming Officer Backus to our school team.  Officer Backus comes with many years of experience in the United States Air Force and will serve our school during phase I.  We are thankful to have Officer Backus on our team.

Should you ever have any questions or concerns about our safety and security protocols, please use the above-mentioned sources of communication, or contact our principal, Krissy Dowling, at or 843-650-3490.  We are committed to the safety of your children.
