Wilson Named A State Semifinalist For The United States Senate Youth Program

Socastee High School’s Ward Wilson is one of 10 semifinalists from South Carolina who will be advancing to the final selection round for the 2019 United States Senate Youth Program Competition. Semifinalists will be interviewed by a panel of judges and will be recognized at an awards luncheon held in their honor on Thursday, November 15 at the South Carolina Department of Education. State Superintendent of Education Molly Spearman will present each semifinalist with a certificate for their outstanding achievements in education and their commitment to community service. 

Two students will be chosen from the semifinalists to receive $10,000 scholarships and move on to represent South Carolina at the 57th Annual United States Senate Youth Program on March 2-9, 2019 in Washington, D.C. State winners will spend a week experiencing their national government in action, hearing major policy addresses by senators, cabinet members, and federal agency officials. They will participate in meetings with the President and a Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.

Wilson is a Socastee High School senior and is the son of Kelly and Rodney Wilson.
