Socastee High Wins Second Academic Olympics Championship

Socastee High School won the 2018 Horry County Schools’ Academic Olympics Championship, the second consecutive title for the schools’ competitive academic team.

The HCS Academic Olympics is a fast-paced, high-stakes, academic competition that challenges teams of students to respond quickly and correctly to rigorous questions and problem-solving activities that test all areas of curricula and current events. High school teams throughout the district prepare and hold practice meets with other schools during the first semester, leading up to the HCS Academic Olympics Championship event held annually each November.

Socastee High Schools’ Academic Olympics Championship Team includes: Matthew Norton-Baker, Jennifer Nguyen, Noelle Jacob, Evan VanArsdale, Caitlyn Burger,

David Bullock, Jackson Little, Maggie Kayll, Peyton Arp, Luke Mencken, Dash Stevanovich, Hunter Staiger, and Molly Moloney. The team is coached by English teacher Cynthia Lehr.
