Deadline for 7th Grade Tdap Immunization Approaching
Deadline approaches for 7th graders to receive Tdap immunization
(NOTE: The Little River Dept. of Health office will NOT be holding a Tdap clinc as previously reported)
Horry County Schools’ 7th grade students have until October 4 to submit verification that they have received the Tdap vaccine that protects students from tetanus, diphtheria, and whooping cough (pertussis). Students who do not submit verification by October 4 will not be permitted to attend school until they are able to supply proof of immunization. Any school days missed for failure to comply with the immunization requirement will be counted as unexcused. Multiple unexcused absences may impact course credit and compulsory attendance laws that govern South Carolina schools.
A Tdap immunization received on or after a student's seventh birthday will meet the immunization requirement, although the immunization is routinely recommended to be given at the ages of 11 or 12. Students who have received the immunization and have not provided an updated South Carolina Certificate of Immunization are asked to submit verification. Medical providers may submit immunization records to a student’s school via fax if allowed by the practice. Students who have not received the immunization are encouraged to contact their medical provider or access an immunization clinic provide by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environment Control (DHEC).
To schedule an appointment through DHEC, please call 1-866-411-5767. Immunization clinics will be held on October 7-8 from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the following Health Department locations:
