Jonathan Green's artwork commemorates landmark education case
Commemorating the 60th Anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education, each of our high schools have been presented with a print of Jonathan Green's painting, “A Breath of Freedom”. This artwork pays tribute to the significance of the South Carolina Briggs v. Elliott case tried in the Federal Courthouse in Charleston in 1951. In his dissent, U.S. District Judge Waites Waring was one the first judges to write that separate schools were not equal schools. Jonathan Green is a renowned artist and a native of South Carolina.
