The Conway Regional Competition will be held on November 4, at the Horry County Government & Justice Center, located at 1301 2nd Avenue in Conway. The day-long event is free and open to the public beginning at 8 a.m. with awards starting at 5 p.m.

Horry County participating middle schools include:

Forestbrook Middle School
Myrtle Beach Middle School
North Myrtle Beach Middle School

Students will present the prosecution and defense sides of a fictitious civil case before a panel of local volunteer lawyers and judges. Additionally, students will fill the roles of attorneys, witnesses, bailiffs and timekeepers. Each team will be judged on its presentation skills, rather than the legal merits of the case.

This year’s fictitious civil case is Landry Lamar v. Bobbie’s Burgers, LLC, in which Landry Lamar sues Bobbie’s Burgers for unlawful whistleblower retaliation under East Carolina law.

A total of 12 teams from the regional competitions will advance to the state competition, December 1-2, at the Richland County Central Court in the Decker Center (2500 Decker Blvd., Columbia 29206).
