Mandy Hooks Takes First Place in HOSA Event
Mandy Hooks, a recent Health Science/Nursing graduate from the Academy for Technology and Academics, and Aynor High School placed first in the Nursing Assisting competitive event at this year’s Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) 43rd Annual International Leadership Conference. Mandy earned her way to compete in the International Conference by becoming a finalist in South Carolina’s HOSA State Leadership conference this past March.
In the fall, Mandy will be attending Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) as a nursing student where she has earned the coveted Nursing Scholars Initiative from HGTC. Only 10 students from the counties of Horry and Georgetown, with the highest grade point averages and meeting four other criteria, earn the Nursing Scholars Initiative. This initiative allows high school graduates to begin their nursing studies immediately, potentially becoming a Registered Nurse (RN) in as little as five semesters.
