HCS Adult Education earns two state awards
Horry County Schools’ Adult Education program received two prestigious awards from the South Carolina Department of Education, including the Spearman Innovation Award for progress in the success rate of adult learners completing secondary education requirements, workplace readiness skills, and college and career preparation. The HCS Adult Education program offers expansive services to adult learners, including instruction and support for students pursuing a South Carolina High School Diploma or a GED, Workforce Readiness and Skills Training, as well as services for college and career planning, digital literacy, family literacy, and English as a Second Language.
The HCS Adult Education program was also recognized as the South Carolina Family Literacy Program of the Year. The HCS Family Literacy Center is a program within the Adult Education program. It provides comprehensive, long-term educational services for parents and their preschool children by integrating parenting, interactive literacy activities, early childhood education, and adult education/literacy. The center offers weekly interactive literacy activities and parenting classes and bi-weekly visits with the Parent-Child Home program.
The HCS Adult Education program is directed by Etta Carter. The program had more than 1,700 participants last year.
