AMS Receives Distinguished Arts Program Grant from SC Department of Education

What an amazing opportunity for learning for AMS students!

On September 1, 2020, Horry County Schools and the Aynor Middle School Fine Arts Department were notified that AMS was awarded the Distinguished Arts Program Grant for the 2020-2021 school year.

The Distinguished Arts Program Grant (DAP Grant) is an award of $18,000 that will be used to implement new learning and enhance existing programs at AMS.  A portion of this funding will be used for continuing education for the grant writers.  Four AMS teachers collaborated to write the grant last school year and will benefit from these continuing education courses.  Those teachers are LeAnne Altman (Chorus and Show Choir), Alex Humphries (Theatre), April Troglauer (Orchestra), and Wesley Walker (Visual Art).

Examples of enhancements to the Fine Arts offerings at AMS include purchasing of digital photography equipment, 3D printing capabilities, new electric string instruments, a portable acoustic shell for instrumental performances, and a back-lit projector for the auditorium, and the opportunity for students to work with a professional choreographer.  This equipment will be utilized to better teach the South Carolina College- and Career- Ready Standards for Arts Proficiency and help students showcase the world-class skills outlined in the Profile of a South Carolina Graduate.

Aynor Middle School is thankful for the opportunities that the funding from the DAP grant will provide for students!  Look for art displays and performances showcasing the skills gained by students through the resources provided by this grant.
