HCS Superintendent receives “highly effective” rating in annual evaluation

Horry County Board of Education members ranked Superintendent Dr. Rick Maxey as “highly effective” on the annual evaluation of his job performance during its board meeting on November 19. The “highly effective” ranking is the highest that the school board could give and is based on multiple criteria/evidence. The Board offered to extend Dr. Maxey’s employment contract by one year, which is through June 30, 2023.

Board members went into executive session to have a preliminary discussion of Maxey’s evaluation, returned to open session and voted unanimously to adopt a summative evaluation that they described as “highly effective”.

Each November, the Board conducts a formal summative evaluation of the Superintendent. The summative evaluation is based upon data collected during the previous academic year from the monitoring of results and operational expectations policies.
