Senior cosmetology major wins first place in statewide competition

Madeline Neese of the Academy for Technology & Academics (ATA) and Conway High School won first place in Bridal Hair Styling at the South Carolina Association of Cosmetology Schools Competition held in Columbia. A senior cosmetology major at ATA, Neese competed among aspiring cosmetologists throughout the state, including public and private schools, most of which enroll adult students.

This was the first year that ATA students entered the statewide competition. Collectively, they entered five events and placed in four. In addition to Neese winning first place, ATA students placed in three other events, as follows: Dillon Printz, ATA and Socastee High, second place in Male Hair Shaping; Kennedy Phipps, ATA and Aynor High, third place in Female Hair Shaping; JaNiya Livingston and Emily Martinez, ATA and Green Sea Floyds High, along with Jessica Redmon, ATA and Aynor High, third place in the Total Look team event.

ATA students who competed at the statewide event are senior cosmetology majors under the instruction of Sabrina Huggins and Christina Cox.
