Horry County Adult Education program wins state awards

For the second year in a row, the Horry County Adult Education (HCAE) program has earned the South Carolina Family Literacy Program of the Year award. Presented by the South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE), this award is given to one program in the state that has the highest percentage of students who reached chosen parent education goals, increased educational functioning levels, and/or obtained at least one of the following: a high school diploma, a high school equivalency diploma and/or a Career Readiness Certificate.

HCAE also received the SCDE’s High School Equivalency Diploma Award, which is presented to the top ten programs in the state with the highest percentage of participating students earning high school equivalency diplomas. This award marks the third time HCAE has been among the state’s top ten high school equivalency diplomas programs. Previous awards were presented in 2015-2016 and 2016-2017.

Etta Carter is the program administrator for HCAE.
