HCS students named semifinalists for the 2020 U.S. Senate Youth Program

Two Horry County Schools students are among 10 students throughout the state chosen as semifinalists for the 2020 United States Senate Youth Program. Later in December, two delegates will be chosen from the semifinalists to attend the 58th Annual United States Senate Youth Program on March 7-14, 2020 in Washington, D.C. Delegates will each receive a $10,000 scholarship and will spend a week experiencing their national government in action, hearing major policy addresses by senators, cabinet members, and federal agency officials. They will participate in meetings with the President and a Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.

Semifinalists from HCS include Rafael Adi of the Academy for the Arts, Science & Technology and Carolina Forest High School and Thomas Riga of Myrtle Beach High School. Semifinalists participated in interviews and were celebrated at a luncheon held in their honor, hosted by Superintendent of Education Molly Spearman in November.
