Layton named Outstanding Theatre Educator of the Year for South Carolina

Lou Layton of the Academy for the Arts, Science & Technology has been named the Outstanding Theatre Educator of the Year by the South Carolina Theatre Association (SCTA). The Outstanding Theatre Educator Award is presented to the K-12 educator, college or university professor, or teaching artist judged to have done the most at their respective levels for theatre students in South Carolina during the previous school year. Layton will be recognized for contributions made to theatre education during the 2018-2019 school year at the SCTE Annual Awards Gala on February 22, 2020, at Furman University.

Layton has taught music and theatre for 43 years. He has been a member of SCTA for 25 years and has served as the association’s president, vice-president, and secondary chairman.
