Hein wins Corporate-Sponsored National Merit Scholarship

Hein In the first of a series of announcements, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) has named the winners of corporate-sponsored scholarships in the 65th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Henry T. Hein of the Scholars Academy and Carolina Forest High School is among only nine high school seniors in South Carolina to receive a corporate-sponsored award. The awards are made possible through funding provided by corporate organizations representing all sectors of American industry in support of the intellectual development of scholastically talented youth.

Hein has been awarded the National Merit Gaylord and Dorothy Donnelley Memorial Scholarship. He will attend the Honors College at the University of South Carolina and will pursue post-secondary education in biochemistry to prepare for a medical career.

The NMSC will announce the recipients of National Merit $2,500 Scholarships on May 13. Announcements about winners of college-sponsored awards will follow on June 3 and July 13. At the conclusion of this year’s competition, about 7,600 students will have won scholarships worth more than $30 million.
