Graham Recognized for 10 Years of School Board Service

Horry County Schools (HCS) board member Janet Graham has been recognized by the South Carolina School Boards Association (SCSBA) for 10 years of school board service.

Janet Graham was appointed to the Horry County Board of Education in September 2012 and was elected in November 2014. Ms. Graham is an Area Manager for the Myrtle Beach Area Small Business Development Center at Coastal Carolina University. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from Coastal Carolina University in 2000 and a Master of Business Administration from Winthrop University in 2004.

This year, 34 school board members from throughout the state will receive special lapel pins for reaching the 10 or 15-year benchmark. Another 18 board members from across our state will commemorate their 20th, 25th, 30th, 35th, or 40th, year of school board service.

Veteran school board members provide vision and valuable leadership for school districts. SCSBA and the local boards are happy to honor these board members for their long-term dedication to improving student achievement in their communities.

In January 2022, in South Carolina, about 43 percent of the state’s approximately 664 school district and affiliate board members had served four years or less, and about 26 percent had 10 years or more of board service.

SCSBA is a non-profit organization serving as a source of information as a statewide voice for boards governing the 77 school districts.
