Janet Doherty of Socastee Elementary Wins PSTA Mini-Grant

Janet Doherty, an ESOL teacher at Socastee Elementary has been selected as a recipient of the 2022 Palmetto State Teachers Association Mini-Grant. This is the inaugural year of PSTA Mini-Grants which were created as part of the Reinvesting in Our Members program. The grants will be awarded annually to encourage and support\ PSTA members as they serve students across our state.

Ms. Doherty currently teaches English Speaker of Other Languages (ESOL) at Socastee Elementary School in Socastee, South Carolina. Her grant focused on purchasing “alphabet sounds teaching tubs” which will provide miniature objects that will help ESOL students both increase their English vocabulary and participate in engaging lessons where they can touch tangible objects during letter/sound instruction. PSTA Director of Teacher Leadership Craig King surprised Ms. Doherty at her school on September 20th with the exciting news that her grant was chosen as a winner!
