David Cox Recognized For 15 Years Of School Board Service

David Cox PhotoHorry County Schools (HCS) board chairman David Cox has been recognized by the South Carolina School Boards Association (SCSBA) for 15 years of school board service.

David Cox was first elected to the Horry County Board of Education in November 2008 as the representative for District 4, and most recently was elected the chairman of the board in November 2022. Mr. Cox graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in journalism and is presently employed by Elliott Realty as a realtor with Better Homes and Gardens Elliot Coastal Living.

This year, 25 school board members from throughout the state will receive special lapel pins for reaching the 10 or 15-year benchmark. Another 14 board members from across our state will commemorate their 20th, 25th, 30th, 35th, or 40th year of school board service.

Veteran school board members provide vision and valuable leadership for school districts. SCSBA and the local boards are happy to honor these board members for their long-term dedication to improving student achievement in their communities. 

In January 2023, about 52 percent of South Carolina’s approximately 570 school district and affiliate board members had served four years or less, and about 28 percent had 10 years or more of board service.

SCSBA is a non-profit organization serving as a source of information and a statewide voice for boards governing the 73 school districts.
