AAST Students Make a Healthy Showing at HOSA Conference

March 23, 2023

AAST HOSA graphicOn March 15–17, students from the Pre-Medicine major at the Academy for the Arts, Science & Technology (AAST) attended the HOSA State Leadership Conference in Charleston. Future Health Professionals, formerly known as Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA), is a student-led organization that prepares students to enter the healthcare industry.

At the conference, AAST students received many awards and recognitions. Most notably, Grace Hains was recognized for her service as the South Carolina HOSA State Community Liaison for 2022-2023. She was also elected Vice President of the South Carolina HOSA for 2023–2024.

At the conference, students also competed in various health-related events. Matthew Ing took first place for pharmacology, while Ross White won first in medical assisting. Fourteen other AAST students scored in the top five for their categories, which included forensic science, CPR/first aid, medical terminology, and more. These students all qualified to compete at the HOSA International Leadership Conference in Dallas this summer.

In addition, AAST was recognized at the conference for having the largest HOSA membership for career centers in South Carolina.

Congratulations to Grace, Matthew, Ross, and all the other outstanding future healthcare professionals from AAST that attended the conference!
