The Sun Belt Conference, Coastal Carolina University (CCU), and the CCU football program announced that CCU has received a $6,000 gift from the College Football Playoff (CFP) Foundation and their Extra Yard for Teachers program.

As part of the CFP Extra Yard for Teachers Week across the nation, CCU Director of Athletics Matt Hogue presented the gift to Horry County Schools Superintendent Dr. Rick Maxey and Chief of Human Resources Mary Anderson in an on-field presentation during the home football game on Saturday, Sept. 16, versus Duquesne.

The $6,000 gift is to benefit the partnership between the university, Coastal Athletics, and Horry County Schools. Horry County Schools will use the grant to fund its Rookie Teacher of the Year program.

As with the school system's longstanding Teacher of the Year awards, the Rookie Teacher of the Year nominees are selected by their peers for the honor. To be eligible for the award, a teacher must be in his or her first three years of teaching in a full-time position and not currently eligible for the annual Teacher of the Year program.

The CFP Foundation created Extra Yard for Teachers Week in 2015 to provide an opportunity for universities, coaches, and student-athletes to take part in its mission of elevating the teaching profession through inspiring and empowering educators.
