Horry County Adult Education Program recipient of Numerous Awards!

HCAE AwardsHorry County Schools is proud of its adult education program, which has locations in Myrtle Beach and Conway and is directed by Etta Greene Carter. The Horry County Adult Education program won several awards at a recent ceremony hosted by the South Carolina Association for Adult and Continuing Education. 

These awards included the following:

  • The JK East Full-Time Teacher of the Year Award, given to a member who has demonstrated success and dedication as a full-time adult education teacher. This award was given to Horry County Adult Education’s Linda VanDyke.
  • The College and Career Navigator of the Year Award, given to a member of the SCAACE who has demonstrated success and dedication as an adult education College & Career Navigator. This award was given to Horry County Adult Education’s Tony Kroll.
  • The Citizen Leadership of the Year Award, given to a community member who has rendered exemplary support and service in the development of adult and community education. This award was given to Yesenia Polanco-Galdamez, founder of Polanco Law.
  • The Outstanding Adult Learner of the Year Award, given to a student who has demonstrated leadership within formal or non-traditional learning environments, who has overcome difficult circumstances to pursue adult learning, who has supported other adult learners, and who has managed significant adult responsibilities such as those related to employment, family, or community. This award was given to Selami Gungordu, an Horry County Adult Education student.
  • The Integrated Education and Training Award, given to programs that demonstrate they have helped students make measurable skills gains in the Integrated Education and Training program.

Congratulations to the Horry County Adult Education program and its employees, and special congratulations to Linda, Tony, Yesenia, and Selami!
