Newest District schools win two prestigious awards

Horry County Schools’ newest school construction program of four new middle schools and one elementary
schoolConstruction Awards  has been recognized by the Engineering News-Record (ENR) as the Best K-12 Education Project in the Southeast region. ENR-Southeast annually recognizes design and construction projects that demonstrate outstanding management, execution, and attention to detail. Within the Southeast region of seven states, only
42 winners earned the distinction of winning a Best Projects award.

The schools represented in the construction program include Ten Oaks Middle School, Myrtle Beach Middle School, Socastee Middle School, St. James Intermediate School, and Socastee Elementary School. The design
and construction of the five schools was completed by SfL+a Architects, Firstfloor Energy Positive, Thomas & Hutton, LHC Structural Engineers, Optima Engineering, Stantec, and Mozingo+Wallace.

The five-school building program also earned the 2018 Carolinas Green Award from the Carolinas Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. The award was presented to Metcon Construction and TA Loving for
the District’s new Energy Positive Schools.
