HCS administrators and athletic directors receive state honors

Athletes The South Carolina Athletic Administrators Association (SCAAA) recognized multiple Horry County Schools’ administrators at its annual Spring Conference.

District principals received two of five SCAAA Principal of the Year awards, which are presented to one high school principal in each classification for having shown outstanding support of athletics at the school, region, and state level. Trevor Strawderman of North Myrtle Beach High School was named the SCAAA Principal of the Year for Class AAAA. Dr. Andrea Pridgen of Green Sea Floyds High School was named the SCAAA Principal of the Year for Class A.

Paula Lee, former athletic director at St. James High School, received the SCAAA Distinguished Service Award in recognition of her length of service, special accomplishments, and contributions to interscholastic athletics at the school, region, and state level. Lee retired from St. James High School in June of 2018. Conway High School Athletic Director Marion Shaw was recognized as the SCAAA Athletic Director of the Year for Region 6, AAAAA.

As an affiliate chapter of the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA), SCAAA chooses candidates to nominate for national awards. HCS Athletic Director Roger Dixon was recognized as the SCAAA nominee for the NIAAA Hall of Fame. The NIAAA Hall of Fame honors individuals with exemplary careers in athletic administration. Joe Quigley, athletic director at North Myrtle Beach High School, was recognized as being the SCAAA nominee for the NIAAA Distinguished Service Award.

John Cahill of Myrtle Beach High School was named the Athletic Director of the Year by the South Carolina Athletic Coaches Association (SCACA). SCACA works to promote, protect and teach student-athletes in South Carolina through effective leadership and professional development of coaches.
