Socastee Middle wins regional Mock Trial competition

Socastee Middle wins regional Mock Trial competition Socastee Middle School won the Conway Regional Middle School Mock Trial Competition held on March 23 at the Horry County Government and Justice Center. Forestbrook Middle School was the runner-up in the final round, winning first place for the regional event.

Five regional qualifying events are held throughout South Carolina each November. Winners from regional events advance to compete for the state championship, which is determined after a two-day competition held the first weekend of December. Horry County Schools’ middle schools were unable to participate in the original qualifying event last fall, having lost preparation time because of extensive school closures due to Hurricane Florence and flooding.

The South Carolina Bar Association, sponsor of Mock Trial through its Law-Related Education Program, afforded schools competing in the Conway Regional event an opportunity to participate, even though winners are unable to advance to state competition for this school year. The competition sequence for Middle School Mock Trial program begins, again, next fall.
