Shirley nominated for the national MacGregor Teaching Award

Stephanie Shirley, a social studies teacher at St. James Middle School, is one of two South Carolina teachers who have been nominated for the national Hannah E. (Liz) MacGregor Teacher of the Year History Teacher Award. Each of the 57 National History Day affiliates may nominate two teachers for the award, which is sponsored by James F. Harris. Winners will receive $5,000 monetary awards in recognition of their commitment to engaging students in historical learning through innovative use of primary sources, implementation of active learning strategies to foster historical thinking skills, and participation in the National History Day Contest. National winners will be announced on June 13 through social media via #NationalHistoryDay.
