Criteria for Membership
Criteria for Membership
To be eligible for Science National Honors Society, students must have:
Entered their junior year of high school.
Maintained a 3.0 overall GPA on a unweighted scale or a 4.0 GPA on a weighted scale. (This must be maintained to remain in good standing)
Maintained a 3.5 GPA in science courses on a unweighted scale or a 4.5 GPA on a weighted scale. (This must be maintained to remain in good standing)
Note: PLTW Biomedical Science course will be counted towards this total even though they earn CATE credits.
If a junior - must be enrolled in or have previously taken one honors or AP level science course
If a senior - must be enrolled in or have previously taken two honors or AP level science courses and must be enrolled in a science course during senior year
Be in good academic/behavioral standing.
Members of Science National Honors Society are required to:
- pay dues $5 for underclassmen; $10 for seniors (no additional cost for chord)
- maintain minimum GPA requirements as listed in eligibility
- take one science course each year of high school
- participate in SNHS fundraisers/drives
- attend at least 3 meetings in the spring semester (February, March, April, May, June)
- perform a minimum of 10 hours of community service annually (this can be combined with community service hours from other subject based honors societies)
- participate in the annual SNHS induction ceremony
