2024 Summer Scholars

  • Horry County Schools’ Summer Scholars Program is a special experience that provides academic enrichment opportunities for gifted and talented students in grades 3-11. Summer Scholars recognizes the importance of allowing gifted and talented students the opportunity for critical thinking and learning through creative exploration.

    NOTE:  Transportation is not included and must be provided by the parents.

    Pricing

    • 1 class - $125
    • 2 classes - $225
    • 3 classes - $325
    • 4 classes - $425


    *Specialized classes require an additional $10 for each class

    *Summer Scholars t-shirts are available for purchase at $12 each.  T-shirts will be preordered and available on the first day of the student's session.

    Scholarships (Free and Reduced Tuition)

    Scholarships are available for Horry County Schools students receiving gifted and talented instruction AND who are eligible for free or reduced program fees. Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) school or district free lunch does not qualify a student for free or reduced fees for the Summer Scholars Program. The following steps must be followed by the parent in order to be considered for a scholarship:

    1. The parent must request and complete a 2023-24 Request for Fee Reduction or Waiver form with the school bookkeeper where your child attends school.

    2. If it is determined by the bookkeeper that the student is eligible, the bookkeeper will provide the parent with a copy of the completed form.

    3. It is the parent's responsibility to submit the form to Wendy Bernstein, Summer Scholars Program, at wbernstein@horrycountyschools.net. The form may also be mailed to Horry County Schools District Office, Summer Scholars Program, Wendy Bernstein, 335 Four Mile Road, Conway, SC 29526.

    4. Deadline to submit the above documentation is May 13, 2024.

    5. T-shirt or specialized class fees are not included in the scholarship. A check or money order to HCS must be included with your registration.

    Refunds

    No refunds will be issued after May 13, 2024.

  • 2024 Registration Deadlines

    The deadline for online registration is 11:59 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2024.  Payment or notification of benefits letter (scholarship invoice) is due to the district office no later than Monday, May 13, 2024. Registration will not be complete and students will not be registered if payment is not received by Monday, May 13, 2024.

    Once your online application is submitted, you will be directed to an invoice page to print out and mail in with your payment.  Registration is not complete until the full payment is received.  For those requesting a scholarship, a current letter of benefits must be included with your invoice and can be emailed to Wendy Bernstein at wbernstein@horrycountyschools.net.  No refunds will be issued after Monday, May 13, 2024.
